Moving in Highton
Highton is the elevated, leafy family suburb on the rise above the Barwon River, prized for its gorge and river views and its Highton Village shops. The land that gives it those views is exactly what makes some moves here a challenge. Homes range from 1970s through to new builds, and the slope means steep driveways, split-level entries and the occasional set of garden steps between the truck and the door — the postcard view from the back deck often comes with a hard climb at the front. Ring Road access is good, so getting a truck to the suburb is easy; the work is at the property itself, choosing where to park so the crew isn't carrying heavy items up a steep, possibly wet driveway. We scope the slope and the entry on a pre-move check so we bring the right crew numbers and equipment for a hillside home, not a flat one.
Local access & logistics
Every Highton move starts with the access, because that is what decides the truck, the crew and the timing. Here is what we plan around in Highton:
- Elevated, sloping terrain means steep driveways and split-level entries on many homes — crews plan parking and carry routes for the gradient.
- River and gorge views often come with garden steps or a climb between the kerb and the front door.
- Geelong Ring Road access is good, so the truck reaches the suburb easily; the planning is all at the property.
- Housing spans 1970s through new builds, so truck and crew size are matched to the specific home.

Parking and access in the City of Greater Geelong
Greater Geelong doesn't run a standard one-day removalist parking permit, so the realistic approach is to work with the existing restrictions rather than buy your way around them. In most residential suburbs (Belmont, Highton, Corio and the like) street parking is unrestricted and you can pull the truck up close to the door. In the CBD it's tighter: Moorabool Street, Brougham Street and the surrounding blocks have 30-minute loading zones and 2hr/4hr metered bays, so we book CBD moves for early on a weekday and work the loading zones with the truck on hazard lights. The Waterfront Precinct (the Esplanade, Cunningham Pier and Eastern Beach) is the one to plan around — it mixes resident permit parking with metered public bays, and large-vehicle access is restricted along parts of the promenade, so we scout the closest legal truck spot before the day rather than assume kerbside access.
Highton removals: common questions
Some Highton driveways are steep — can a truck handle them?
Some can't, and that's fine. A number of Highton's elevated blocks have steep, narrow or sharply-angled driveways that a large truck shouldn't attempt. We check the access when we quote, bring the right-sized truck for the property, and where the driveway won't take the vehicle we park on the street and carry — our crews do the steep-block carry properly so nothing (and no one) takes a tumble.
Can you access properties down towards the Barwon River gorge?
Yes. The streets backing onto the river gorge are some of Highton's best, and also some of its trickiest for access with the slope and the tighter roads. We size the truck to the street, scout the parking, and plan the carry so the move stays smooth even where a big rig can't get right to the door.
Do you do Deakin University student moves around Highton and Waurn Ponds?
We do — Highton is handy to the Deakin Waurn Ponds campus and we move plenty of students in and out, especially around semester change-over. For a single room or a small share-house load it's a quick, affordable job, and we'll give you a clear up-front quote so there are no surprises on a student budget.
How much does a move in Highton cost?
Our online-quote rates start at $200/hour for two movers and a truck ($250 for three, $400 for a larger crew with two trucks), and you get a clear indicative quote up front for your specific move. No surprises on the day.
